Activated Carbon Filters (ACF): Essential Technology for Effective Water Purification and Contaminant Removal

Activated Carbon Filters (ACF): Essential Technology for Effective Water Purification and Contaminant Removal

Bisineer Activated Carbon Filters remove free chlorine, organic matter, odor, and color from raw and wastewater. With high micro-porosity, they offer a large surface area for effective adsorption, efficiently trapping organic compounds and gases like chlorine.

How it Works?

Activated carbon water treatment is basically used for two water treatment purposes and each work in totally different ways.

Chlorine Removal

  • Effective De-chlorination – Activated carbon efficiently removes chlorine without significant degradation.
  • High Flow Rates – The process is rapid, allowing for high flow rates.
  • Surface Area Requirement – A large surface area is needed for effective chlorine removal.
  • Pore Blockage Over Time – Organic matter eventually clogs carbon pores, reducing effectiveness.
  • Filter Replacement – The carbon filter must be replaced as its de-chlorination ability declines.
  • Reactivation Possible – Spent carbon can be reactivated but should only be used for wastewater treatment.
  • Bacterial Growth Concern – The damp environment of AC can promote bacterial proliferation.
  • Medical & RO System Risks – Bacterial growth can be problematic in medical applications and pre-treatment for reverse osmosis.

Removal of Organic Matter

  • Adsorption Process – Organic particles and chemicals are trapped inside the activated carbon filter.
  • Physical Properties – Surface area and pore size distribution of activated carbon.
  • Carbon Composition – Hydrogen and oxygen content in the carbon source.
  • Contaminant Properties – Chemical makeup and concentration of the contaminant.
  • Water Conditions – pH level and temperature impact adsorption efficiency.
  • Contact Time (EBCT) – Longer exposure to activated carbon enhances removal effectiveness.

Activated Carbon Filters (ACF): Essential Technology for Effective Water Purification and Contaminant Removal

The Activated Carbon Filters consist of Activated carbon granules supported by very fine Sand/Quartz filter media. Various grades of carbon are available for specialized treatments. These compact, high efficiency filters have been designed for eliminating turbidity and suspended particles present in feed water, with minimal pressure drop. The filters are highly effective and when properly operated, will produce sparking, clear water. Usually, the Activated carbon Filter is preceded by Pressure Sand Filter for efficient removal of Suspended Particles in the Raw Water.
